Selimiye & History

A secluded, untouched fishing village; Selimiye...

Selimiye village and its surroundings is one of the oldest civilizations consisting of dozens of ruins of Carian period. In ancient times, the name of the village was Hydas, and later moved to Losta. The village is also called Kızılköy (Crimson village) because the sun shades the village to red as it disappears behind the mountains at dawn. Hydas (Selimiye) has ruins dating from the Archaic period in Bozburun Peninsula as well as the others like Loryma Kaisareia, Kastobos and Erine. There are three castle ruins around the area. One of the them is on the highest hill of Selimiye, another one is on the Sarıkaya Hill and the last one is Aşarkale at Kızılköy district. There has been no archaeological work done yet and neglected transportation until recent times has led to the region remain untouched.

Selimiye is a natural wonder. The region's most important source of income is fishing and animal husbandry. One of Turkey's leading marinas; Sığliman Bay is in Selimiye. Selimiye Village is one of the pearls of the Gulf of Hisarönü.
